So far, three more Door mijn gedaan ( ' done by me ') Middelburg darning samplers could be added to the list. Another one of Maria Letellier showed up. She is now in the lead with 18 samplers under her auspices , second is still Tannetje Wackeroet with no less than 16 pieces. Third is Adriana de Vroe, with 11 samplers.
The first and oldest added to the list was made by Pieternella Carrijn in 1745, teacher Janna van Driessen. The second one made by Martina Plack in 1777, teacher Maria Letellier. The third sampler was made by Cornelia Finie in 1789, teacher Cornelia van Assendelft.
In case you know a darning sampler that is not on the list, please let us know.
Indien u nog een " Door mijn gedaan..." stopdoek kent die niet op de lijst staat, laat het ons s'il vous plait weten.
Darning sampler made by Martina Plack in 1777. Teacher was Maria Letellier. There are few examples of this type with the four large corner darns, the pattern darning work, the stepped rows in satin stitch and large text stitched in point de riz. (Private collection)
Already on the list and very similar to the one above is this perfect sampler made by Jacoba Stamperius in 1771 , teacher Maria Letellier (Collection Museum of International Folk Art, Museum of New Mexico)
