There is only one that can be at the top of the list. This is the only sampler without the name or initials of the teacher! It is very likely a sampler made under the guidance of Maria Kuypers and was worked by PK in 1715. It is worth mentioning all four samplers known with the teacher Maria Kuypers on it.
The first, by PK (shown underneath) set of the what would became " Door mijn gedaan" series of darning samplers. About 15 years ago the antique sampler dealers Stephen & Carol Huber had this wonderful sampler in their sale catalogue. (Thank you for allowing to use the picture!)
The text reads: Door mijn gemaekt PK anno 1715. This was not yet the " Door mijn gedaan". Neither had the three other samplers of Maria Kuypers this particular line. The " Door mijn gedaan" text was introduced by an other teacher, Maria Marinisse in 1730.
The second and third sampler were both made in 1719, respectively by Elisabeth Mare and Pieternella Trat. Both were ended in January of that year. Of Pieternella's sampler we do not have a picture yet.
The fourth sampler was made by Lena Hendrik in 1723. Interestingly, on both of the 1719 samplers there is an unique full address stated (Oude Kerkstraatje 1). Here was the classroom or home of Maria Kuypers!
Lena Hendrik 1723 (Zeeuws Museum)
On the left the 1723 sampler that has the same long stretched darns but smaller of size and more in number. All four samplers have the stepped pattern darning work, which look like the the top of a house. These steps are very characteristic for most samplers of Middelburg group. One of the 1719 samplers resembles the 1723 very much.
